Evacuations downgraded for Brooks Tract Fire in Omak, forward progression stopped

UPDATE: August 3 at 10:10 p.m.

Okanogan County Emergency Management (OCEM) announced that Level 3 evacuation orders for the Brooks Tract Fire have been reduced to Level 1 advisory surrounding the immediate burn area, and all other evacuation orders have been dropped.

The fire’s forward progression has been stopped by firefighters.

Four homes were destroyed in the fire, OCEM reported, but the number of outbuildings lost has not yet been confirmed.

While State Route 115 has been re-opened, Omak Eastside Riverside Road will remain closed as firefighters continue working on scene through Sunday night.

UPDATE: August 3 at 8:02 p.m.

The Brooks Tract Fire has burned approximately 60 acres, with forward progression halted, according to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. However, the fire remains 0% contained as of now.

The American Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter at Omak Middle School, located at 14 S Cedar St, in response to the blaze.

The shelter began operations at 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, and will remain open overnight to assist affected residents.

The fire has reportedly destroyed four homes, according to a Red Cross email, although confirmation from local authorities is still pending.

Residents in the evacuation zone are urged to seek safety immediately. The shelter provides food, cots and other urgent needs.

OMAK, Wash. – Level 3 Immediate Evacuation orders have been issued for many Omak residents around the Okanogan River, due to the Brooks Tract Fire.

These evacuation orders encompass the following areas:

State Route 155 from milepost 76 to 78 (near 89 Omak Riverside Eastside Road)

Moomaw Road

Sinkueep Road

Omak Mountain Road

River Overlook Street

Kruse Street

Omak River Road (Sand Flat Area)

The Red Cross is providing shelter for evacuees. Those in need can go to the Omak Middle School, specifically the Stevens Gym, located at 14 South Cedar Street.
