ARLINGTON, Wash. – A man who escaped custody was arrested Wednesday while fishing in western Washington, according to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Around 9:15 a.m., a Fish and Wildlife police officer contacted a man fishing at Haller Park on the Stillaguamish River, the agency said.

Dispatch confirmed the man had an active Department of Corrections felony warrant for escaping community custody, according to Fish and Wildlife.

When the officer tried to take him into custody, the man jumped into the river in an attempt to flee. The officer pursued him and caught up with him on the opposite shore, the agency said.

The man, who was tired and wet, was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
