STEVENS PASS – Emergency repairs began Thursday, Dec. 18, on US 2 at Stevens Pass to address washouts and mudslides affecting several miles of roadway.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) had to close the highway on Wednesday, Dec. 10, between Index and Coles Corner due to the damage. The closure was later extended to include Tumwater Canyon.
An emergency contract with Hurst Construction covers repairs on a 12-mile stretch between mileposts 58 and 70. The work involves roadway stabilization, debris removal and drainage repairs.
The route remains closed between Skykomish and Leavenworth, with no estimated reopening time. Additional repair plans are underway for sections of Tumwater Canyon and east of Skykomish.
