ELK CITY, Idaho – An intense pursuit involving Idaho County deputies ended with the arrest of Daniel Key, 33, from Harpster, Idaho.

According to a report from the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, the chase began on December 4, 2025, when deputies attempted a traffic stop on Key, who was driving a green and white Ford F250 on Bullock Lane in Elk City. The vehicle, towing a homemade trailer with no lights, led deputies for approximately three miles before they discontinued due to weather and road conditions.

Later the same day, deputies located Key again on Table Meadows Road. The Ford reportedly rammed a deputy’s side-by-side, allowing Key to flee on foot.

On December 5, 2025, around 7:00 a.m., a deputy spotted Key in a small blue pickup. After a brief foot chase, Key was detained. He was checked for hypothermia by the Elk City Ambulance before being transported to the Idaho County Jail.

Key faces multiple charges, including five warrants for eluding, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest. Additional charges include felony malicious injury to property, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana.

“The arrest demonstrates our commitment to apprehending dangerous fugitives who pose immediate threats to law enforcement and community safety,” said the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to Elk City residents who aided deputies by offering personal off-road vehicles for the search.
