DUI charged for driver who hit a biker towing a dog at Pines Road by I-90 Spokane

Pines road near I-90 is open again as officials continue to clear the scene of the crash.

Washington State Patrol said one cyclist is being transported to the hospital in critical condition after they were hit by a car at the intersection. They are currently investigating the incident.

The driver of the car is currently under arrest for DUI and troopers say the driver showed obvious signs of impairment.

Troopers say that the cyclist ran a red light, but their team is checking security camera footage because of the effects confirmation would have on the charges facing the driver.

The cyclist was towing a dog in a trailer with their bike when they were hit. The dog was uninjured and is being taken to Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services (SCRAPS).

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The on-off ramp to I-90 from Pines Road and Indiana Avenue is closed in both directions due to a car crash, according to the Spokane Department of Transportation.

Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to the crash at 4:28 a.m. and cleared the area by 5:15 a.m.

However, Spokane DOT announced at 5:04 a.m. that the ramp would be closed until further notice and that travelers should use an alternate route.

The ramp is still closed as of 7:09 a.m.

Pines Road is a portion of State Route 27.
