DUI bill to lower legal limit stalls in Washington state legislation

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A bill aimed at lowering the legal limit for driving under the influence of alcohol in Washington state will not take effect this year.

The bill proposed lowering the legal limit to 0.05, aligning with Utah as the only state with such a strict limit.

Senate Bill 5067 stalled in the House Community Safety Committee this week. Representative Roger Goodman, the committee chair, stated there was not enough Democratic support to pass the bill during this session.

Lawmakers plan to continue working on the bill with hopes of passing it next year, aiming for it to take effect in 2028.
