PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. – A drowning occurred near the waterfall area of Horseshoe Lake in the southwest corner of Pend Oreille County on July 12, the sheriff’s office said in a release.
Witnesses reported a man fell overboard from a small boat and had been underwater for four minutes when the initial call was made.
Emergency responders from South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue, Fire District 4 and Pend Oreille County Sheriff Office, along with Marine Patrol, responded. Life Flight was also launched to the scene.
The Spokane County Sheriff Office Marine Division divers recovered the body in about 17 feet of water where the boater was last seen, the release said.
The victim was identified as Webster Kneass III, a 64-year-old from Deer Park, Washington. His body was released to the Spokane Medical Examiner office to determine the cause of death.
