Driver in Kittitas County hit and run apprehended after falling asleep

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – A hit-and-run collision occurred in Kittitas County early Thursday, when a driver fell asleep at the wheel.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the incident took place on eastbound I-90 at milepost 62, approximately 10 miles east of Snoqualmie Summit.

A man from Lynnwood was driving a green 2011 Mazda Mazda2 hatchback when he fell asleep, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a tree.

WSP said that the man fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended.

WSP said that fatigue was identified as the cause of the collision.

The man was transported to Kittitas Valley Healthcare with personal injuries. It was confirmed that he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

No drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.

WSP said that the driver faces charges for hit and run.
