Drive-by shooting in Spokane leads to SWAT response and arrest

SPOKANE, Wash. – Police arrested a man early Thursday morning in connection to a drive-by shooting in North Spokane.

According to the Spokane Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 4:30 a.m. in the area of West Rockwell Avenue. Multiple 911 calls were made after residents heard shots fired.

SPD said that when officers arrived, they discovered that gunfire had been exchanged between a driver and someone inside a home. A vehicle seen leaving the scene was stopped, and officers observed bullet damage on its exterior. The driver was detained for questioning.

SWAT, the Hostage Negotiation Team, and the SPD Air Support Unit were called to assist. Police said a woman and a child were believed to be inside the home with the suspect. A spent shell casing was found nearby.

Shortly after officers surrounded the home, two women and a child exited safely. Steven Davis, 23, was taken into custody after exiting through the back of the residence. After obtaining a search warrant, officers confirmed no one else was inside.

Davis was booked into the Spokane County Jail for first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree assault. No injuries were reported.
