WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., as the new National Advisor for Nutrition, Health and Housing at the USDA.
Secretary Rollins highlighted Dr. Carson’s extensive qualifications and his role in shaping policies to improve Americans’ quality of life. She emphasized the importance of his insight, especially as six in ten Americans live with at least one chronic disease.
“There is no one more qualified than Dr. Carson to advise on policies that improve Americans’ everyday quality of life, from nutrition to healthcare quality to ensuring families have access to safe and stable housing,” said Rollins.
Dr. Carson expressed his commitment to the role, focusing on supporting vulnerable families through effective policymaking.
“Today, too many Americans are suffering from the effects of poor nutrition. Through common-sense policymaking, we have an opportunity to give our most vulnerable families the tools they need to flourish,” said Dr. Carson.
In his new position, Dr. Carson will advise both President Trump and Secretary Rollins on nutrition, rural healthcare quality and housing accessibility. He will also participate in the President’s Make America Healthy Again Commission.
Dr. Carson’s previous roles include serving as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and as Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. His achievements in medicine and public service have earned him numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
