
WASHINGTON – “DOWEL” was Washington’s most challenging Wordle puzzle in 2025 played on May 11, according to Unscramblerer.com. The word was also the toughest across the United States that year.
The research utilized Google Trends and Ahrefs to analyze search data from January 1 to December 31, 2025. This data identified the hardest Wordle words by tracking searches for “Wordle hint.”
Other tricky words included “GNOME” on July 13 and “FUGUE” on November 9, which stumped players across various states.
A spokesperson from Unscramblerer.com highlighted player behavior, stating that Wordle enthusiasts searched for hints 44.6 million times in 2025.
“Americans love to solve the puzzle themselves, even at the risk of breaking a winning streak,” said the spokesperson.
