CHENEY, Wash. – Spokane Transit Authority (STA) announced an upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 20, at Eastern Washington University (EWU) to launch its new double-decker buses.
The event is scheduled to take place at 12 p.m. at Eagle Station. Speeches will be delivered by EWU President Shari McMahan, Cheney Mayor and STA Board Member Chris Grover and Karl Otterstrom, the Chief Executive Officer of STA.
“These double-decker buses represent Spokane Transit’s continued commitment to innovation, sustainability and enhanced rider experience,” Otterstrom stated.
Double-decker service will start on Route 6 from Cheney at 12:37 p.m. and from Spokane at 1:07 p.m., following the ceremony. Special 15-minute service will be available around EWU’s first home football game from approximately 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and after the game from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Riders heading to Cheney from Jefferson Park & Ride or West Plains Transit Center will have the chance to receive a cross-branded EWU and STA promotional item. Parking is free, and standard bus fare is $2 for adults. Youth 18 and younger can ride for free.
