WASHINGTON STATE – Dog attacks on postal service employees have risen across the U.S., with more than 6,000 incidents reported last year. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) launched its National Dog Bite Awareness Campaign to address this issue.

Washington ranked 15th among all states in 2024, with 126 dog bites on letter carriers. In Spokane, there were eight incidents, while Seattle had 12.

Idaho ranked 37th last year. Idaho Falls reported four incidents, Boise had two, and both Caldwell and Nampa reported one each.

Montana ranked 38th in 2024. Billings had four incidents, while Missoula, Great Falls, and Bozeman each reported one.

USPS officials advise dog owners to teach their pets appropriate behavior and commands to prevent attacks. They also recommend not allowing dogs to roam freely.
