Dog and owner rescued after incident at Spokane’s Riverfront Park

According to a firefighter from Spokane Fire District 4, the incident was reported as a water rescue after a man’s dog climbed over the barrier near the Pavilion in Riverfront Park and fell down the embankment.

The man then followed his dog in a rescue attempt, climbing down the embankment. They both became stuck near the river, with no way to get back out of the embankment. Neither the dog or its owner entered the water at any point.

After District 4 firefighters arrived, the man and his dog were safely rescued with very minor injuries.

SPOKANE, Wash. – A water rescue began around 5:30 p.m. near North Howard Street and West Spokane Falls Boulevard, according to the Spokane Fire Department (SFD).

A NonStop Local team member at the scene reported that rescue personnel used a crane to lower a first responder down to the Spokane River embankment. The crane then lifted a man and a dog from the embankment to safety.

The SFD has not yet provided details about the circumstances that led to this water rescue. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
