WASHINGTON – Residents in Washington are being targeted by a new text message scam claiming they have an outstanding traffic ticket.
The Washington State Department of Transportation has issued a warning to the public about this fraudulent activity.
The scam involves a text message stating that a traffic ticket must be paid by June 25.
Many people, including staff members in the NonStop Local newsroom, received this message earlier today.
WSDOT emphasized that they will never send texts or phone calls about traffic tickets.
If residents receive such messages, they should recognize them as scams.
