UNITED STATES — The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a new investment of $115 million in drone and counter-drone technologies. The initiative comes as the nation prepares for the World Cup and America’s 250th birthday this summer.
The DHS revealed that a new office will be established to focus on purchasing and deploying these advanced technologies.
The decision to invest heavily in drone technology is partly in response to drug cartels. According to the DHS, these cartels have been using their own drones and cyberattacks to assist in smuggling drugs and spying on U.S. officials.
