
MATTAWA, Wash. – A deadly crash happened early Tuesday morning approximately 10 miles west of Mattawa on Highway 243.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a vehicle drifted off the roadway at milepost 3.8, causing the driver to overcorrect, which led the vehicle to roll over and come to rest on its top in the northbound lane.
Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Sergio L. Corrales, 52, of Mattawa, was identified as the driver and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Washington State Patrol confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Sonia G. Corrales, 53, also from Mattawa, was a passenger in the vehicle.
She sustained injuries and was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. It was reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt either.
Authorities stated that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
The Washington State Patrol is urging drivers to always wear seatbelts to prevent similar tragedies.
