Crash at Driscoll Blvd. and Rowan Ave. causes floods, power outages

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – A crash at the intersection of Driscoll Blvd. and Rowan Ave. caused a power outage that affected 294 Avista customers and burst a fire hydrant that flooded nearby streets.

David Vowels, a communications manager with Avista, said the outage happened at 6:45 a.m. after two power poles were damaged by the crash.

He said Avista crews were at the scene trying to fix the damage and asked people to avoid the area.

Kristin Davis, communications manager for Spokane City Public works, said the fire hydrant was sheared off at the lead during the crash, which caused water damage in the area.

No homes were flooded by the water and City water department crews went to the scene to clean up and make repairs, Davis said.

She said all customers still have water service, but that the intersection at Driscoll Blvd. and Rowan Ave. would be closed due to the flooding.
