Court docs reveal details in deadly Spokane hit-and-run involving teen driver who fled scene

According to court docs, the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. near the 4800 block of South Perry Street. Witnesses told police a vehicle hit a woman jogging along the east shoulder of the road before crashing into a tree. The driver then allegedly ran from the scene through the nearby Manito Country Club.

Court docs said that multiple witnesses reported seeing the suspect flee, including two golf course employees who heard the impact and rushed to help. One witness captured a photo of the suspect running across the golf course, according to police.

Emergency responders said that they found the victim unconscious and not breathing. Spokane Fire Department personnel began lifesaving measures, but she later died. She was identified as .

Police said they canvassed the area and found a shoe on the golf course believed to belong to the suspect. About 20 minutes later, firefighters reported seeing a man matching the suspect’s description running toward a wooded area near Meadow Lane Road and Eagle Ridge Boulevard.

Officers said that they found the teenage suspect nearby, missing his shoes and with wet clothing. Police said he smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and visible injuries consistent with a crash. He also allegedly made several spontaneous statements referencing the collision.

Field sobriety tests indicated impairment, and police obtained a search warrant for a blood sample. Investigators later found blood on the driver’s-side airbag of the vehicle involved, along with damage consistent with a high-impact crash.

A passenger told detectives he had been asleep in the backseat during the crash and identified the teenage driver as the person arrested.

The suspect was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of vehicular assault, felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence.
