SPOKANE, Wash. – The 17-year-old accused of a fatal hit appeared in court for a pre-trial hearing as attorneys discussed the next steps in the case. The attorney for the accused, Morgan Maxey, requested additional time to prepare.
Prosecutors agreed, noting they are still awaiting lab results and other evidence from Washington State Patrol. They emphasized that proceeding to trial is impossible while the investigation continues.
The court scheduled a new pre-trial hearing for August 27, with the trial set for September 8.
At the scene of the incident, a memorial stands in honor of the victim. A local man who has done yard work on the street for years mentioned that cars often speed through the area.
“Neighbors heard the screams that morning,” he said.
This week, new flowers were placed at the site where Doxey was simply doing what she loved, which ultimately cost her life. The 17-year-old, remains in custody as both sides prepare for what is expected to be an emotional trial this fall.
