SEATTLE, Wash. – Authorities arrested 23 people over the weekend following clashes between counter-protesters and attendees at an anti-abortion religious rally in the Seattle’s LGBTQ+ neighborhood.
The event took place in a park where tensions escalated, leading to physical confrontations. Police used bikes to maintain order and protect themselves.
The Mayday USA Tour, which organized the event, describes itself as a faith-based initiative offering resources for individuals who have had abortions or are part of gay relationships.
“I would say the queer community here is resilient, a very strong community. We have each other’s backs,” a local resident stated.
“Well, I think coming to this park was really provocative, you know, and so they’re gonna get met with resistance,” another local resident added.
Among those arrested was a juvenile, who was subsequently released. The remaining 22 individuals were taken to King County Jail.
During the protests, one officer sustained injuries.
