An e-bike capable of reaching speeds of more than 100mph has been seized by police.
Officers patrolling in York spotted the adapted bike which had the capability to run at 103.8mph on December 20.
The legal limit for an e-bike in the UK is 15.5mph – and the 250W motor must cut out at that speed.
This particular bike was one of two seized by officers and had been adapted so the safety measures would not come into force.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “With assistance from our neighbourhood officers, this bike has been taken off the roads for good.
“We don’t want to spoil Christmas but it’s important to stay safe while using the roads.”
