Chilly May temperatures and chances for rain and thunderstorms will be important considerations as you plan out your weekend.
Plan Your Friday
Friday will be breezy with gusts reaching 25 mph, while areas near the Cascades could see a few wind gusts up to 40 mph. High temperatures will stay 5 to 10 degrees below normal, mostly in the upper 50s with a few low 60s readings. A Frost Advisory is in effect for the Northeast Mountains and Okanogan Highlands, where temperatures tonight will drop to 36 degrees or lower, potentially harming sensitive plants if they’re left unprotected. A couple of isolated showers are possible late in the day, but most areas stay dry.
What We’re Tracking
Scattered rain and a few thunderstorms will make your Saturday plans outside much more difficult. Expect the stormiest weather from the late morning through the mid-afternoon. Isolated showers and storms will remain possible until an hour or two after sunset. If you are heading to the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade in Spokane on Saturday evening, be prepared for the possibility of rain and lightning.
It will be exceptionally cool for this time of year. Highs on Saturday will only reach the low to mid-50s. Frost concerns expand Saturday Night and Sunday Night into Spokane and the Palouse as lows dip into the mid-30s.
Mountain snow is a strong possibility this weekend, even down to the passes. Traveling through the mountains could see you run into some slushy spring snow accumulations through the end of Sunday!
