Construction to prompt closures on North Ash Street and Rockwood Boulevard in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – City Public Works officials announced on Friday that developments with construction projects will impact traffic and cause delays in the areas of North Ash Street and Rockwood Boulevard.

Drivers travelling on North Ash Street will experience delays between West Indiana Avenue and West Maxwell Avenue, as work on the Maxwell Avenue Bike and Pedestrian Safety Upgrades project has been postponed.

Southbound traffic on Ash Street will be reduced to a single lane in this area, from September 22 through September 24. Local access will be maintained, however there will be increased traffic congestion and pedestrians may encounter sidewalk detours.

Officials suggested that drivers find alternative routes to avoid the area, or avoid driving on this route during high-traffic times.

Rockwood Boulevard will be completely closed down between Grand Boulevard and Cowley Street, south of Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital, starting on September 15 and continuing through September 17.

The closure was planned to accommodate water, sewer and stormwater systems work as part of the Rockwood Boulevard project, in addition to pavement repairs and a redesign of the intersection between Rockwood Boulevard, Cowley Street and 10th Avenue.

The intersection at Sumner Avenue and 10th Avenue will open for northbound and southbound traffic on Rockwood Boulevard. However, the intersection of Sumner Avenue and 10th Avenue will be closed to eastbound and westbound through traffic between Grand Boulevard and Sherman Street. 9th Avenue will have one lane in each direction for access to the healthcare employee parking garage.

On-street metered parking will not be available on 9th Avenue between Grand Boulevard and Cowley Street, or on Rockwood Boulevard between Grand Boulevard and Cowley Street. Pedestrians should anticipate sidewalk detours, though local access will remain available.
