Wash. – Washington Congressman Michael Baumgartner submitted a resolution to the United States House of Representatives supporting President Trump’s actions to dismantle Iran’s nuclear weapons program and affirming unwavering support for the State of Israel’s right to self-defense.
This comes most immediately in the wake of the on Iranian nuclear facilities, which was Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
“I’ve spent nearly 30 years on Middle East issues, and President Trump’s approach to Iran has been a game-changer—neutralizing the nuclear threat and opening a real chance for peace,” wrote Baumgartner in a release from his office.
“But Iran remains a top terrorist sponsor and a serious threat to the U.S., our troops, and to stability in the Middle East. This resolution sends a clear message: we must keep pressure on Iran to ensure the end of its nuclear program and regional aggression. Vigilance and strength are still critical,” he continued.
The resolution offers support for President Trump’s actions, hailing the success of Operation Midnight Hammer and reaffirming the United States’ position to ensure that Iran is never able to build a nuclear weapon.
It also reaffirms unwavering support for the State of Israel’s right to self defense while calling for continued defense coordination between the United States and Israel, specifically by replenishing Israel’s missile defense systems like Iron Dome and David’s Sling.
Finally, it also applauds the Trump administration’s renewed call for Tran to return to negotiations aimed at ending hostility and encouraging diplomacy, while urging the United Kingdom, France and Germany to leverage their influence to press Iran to de-escalate.
The final resolution states that the United States does not want war with the Iranian people, but instead seeks to end Iran’s nuclear weapons pursuit while “[expressing] solidarity with the Iranian people in their aspirations for peace, dignity, and fundamental freedoms.”
The release from Baumgartner’s office adds that Texas Representative Zach Nunn and Iowa Representative August Pflunger are also introducing the resolution.
“For too long, policies of appeasement—including the Obama administration’s JCPOA and the Biden administration’s reversal of Maximum Pressure—gave Iran cover to enrich uranium and expand terror networks. President Trump is restoring American credibility by holding Tehran accountable and reestablishing deterrence,” wrote Pfluger in Baumgartner’s announcement.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. military sent a clear message: we will not tolerate threats to our allies or our homeland. I’m proud to introduce this resolution with my Republican Study Committee colleagues to support the president’s strong actions to stand firmly with Israel and protect American service members, diplomats, and families from escalating violence,” added Nunn.
