WASHINGTON — Congressional leaders in Washington State shared their reactions following President Trump’s recent State of the Union address.
Senator Maria Cantwell expressed disappointment with the address.
“Americans who were eager to hear President Trump’s plan to fight higher health care costs, higher food costs, and higher housing costs didn’t hear one,” said Cantwell.
Prior to the President’s speech, Senator Patty Murray shared her thoughts on how she planned to respond.
“While Trump is getting ready to ramble and lie his way through his state of the union, I am not going to stay home, and yell at my TV, and get angry, I am going to roll up my sleeves, channel that frustration, and get to work,” said Murray.
On the Republican side, Representative Dan Newhouse praised President Trump’s speech, highlighting the strength of the nation.
“Our Southern Border is secured, inflation is down, our Nation is safer, and we are reversing the damage caused by the Biden administration,” said Newhouse.
Newhouse also spoke about his future plans as his time in Congress comes to an end.
“As I wind down my tenure in Congress, I remain committed to working with this administration to advance policies that benefit my constituents throughout Central Washington,” said Newhouse.
