Concerta Urgent Care loses power after overnight crash between car, powerline

All lanes on Northeast Newport Highway are back open and power is back in the area.

Concerta Urgent Care received power before needing to move its vaccines.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Ten Spokane homes, Concerta Urgent Care, Raising Canes Chicken Finger’s and Wendy’s lost power overnight after a driver crashed into a power pole near 9200 North Newport Highway.

The crash also created closures on Northeast Newport Highway, leaving only one northbound lane open. The lane is expected to reopen around 9 a.m.

The crash was reported around 1 a.m., according to the Spokane Police Department, and left the power lane broken in two places.

Staff at Concerta Urgent Care said their location lost power due to the crash and that if the power does not return soon, they will have to move vaccines from their fridge to another location.

A Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and a Wendy’s nearby also lost power due to the crash, according to staff from each store at the scene. Ten homes also lost power after the crash according to Avista.

Spokane Police said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash and the driver is now in custody.

Investigation is still underway.
