OLYMPIA, Wash. – Commissioner of Public Lands Dave Upthegrove commemorated Week of Remembrance and National Wildland Firefighter Day in a press release, reminding people that the Week of Remembrance takes place annually from June 30 to July 6 and that National Wildland Firefighter Day is on July 2.

The release, which was put out by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, said that this Week of Remembrance carries a special significance, which resulted in the deaths of two firefighters near Core d’Alene, Idaho.

National Wildland Firefighter Day recognizes “the dedication of wildland firefighters and support personnel, and serves as an opportunity to renew our commitment to wildland firefighter safety and the men and women who work to save lives, property, infrastructure, and precious natural and cultural resources every season,” says the statement.
