COLVILLE, Wash. – With the recent clearing of Colville’s homeless camp, Stevens County leaders are now shifting their attention to finding long-term solutions for housing issues in the area.
According to The Spokesman-Review, the county’s Homeless Housing Task Force is developing a new five-year plan set to run from 2025 to 2030. The main focus of this plan is on expanding housing and recovery services.
The task force gathered on Thursday to discuss their priorities, which include addressing the ongoing housing shortage in rural areas.
Rural Resources, the nonprofit leading the task force, revealed that a new 72-unit housing project in partnership with Catholic Charities is already open in Colville. However, they are still in the process of filling spots. Notably, half of the units are reserved for individuals experiencing homelessness.
The next meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on August 12 at the Stevens County Commissioners Office. Officials are encouraging more community involvement in these efforts.
