COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho – The Coeur d’Alene Police Department plans to take extra steps to ensure the public is safe during Saturday’s ‘No Kings’ protest.
Some residents, who did not wish to be interviewed, told NonStop Local they have concerns about what could happen Saturday, specifically, after the chaos at Spokane’s anti-ICE protest on Wednesday.
“There are those concerns. And they are valid. And I completely understand where they’re coming from… As far as violence, physical violence and damage to property, we haven’t seen that. And I don’t anticipate that for this one,” Sarah Martin, a co-organizer for the protest, said.
Martin is also a chair of the Kootenai County Democrats, but, she clarified that while the political organization is promoting the movement, they are not officially sponsoring or organizing the protest.
Martin told NonStop Local that Saturday’s protest is part of a nationwide movement to peacefully protest “authoritarianism.”
A public information officer for the Coeur d’Alene Police Department told NonStop Local that there will be a number of extra officers on duty Saturday to make sure the protest stays peaceful. They said they will increase the number of officers in the event of any unrest and because of Car d’Lane Classic Car Weekend.
The protest will take place at the Highway 95 and Appleway Avenue Interchange from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.
