YAKIMA, Wash. – Dr. David Antonio Becerril, 69, from Coeur d’Alene and formerly of Selah, was found guilty in U.S. District Court in Yakima of conspiracy, fraud and false statements in a telemarketing health care fraud scheme, U.S. Attorney Pete Serrano announced in a release.

Dr. Becerril faces up to 20 years in prison at his sentencing set for January 20, 2026.

Evidence presented in court revealed that from February 2018 to September 2019, Dr. Becerril, a licensed Washington physician, falsely billed Medicare for unnecessary genetic tests and medical equipment. He signed fraudulent orders for elderly beneficiaries, including deceased patients and those without limbs.

The scheme involved Real Time Physicians, LLC, whose telemarketers gathered personal information from Medicare beneficiaries. Dr. Becerril certified false prescriptions through an internet portal, which Real Time then sold to labs and equipment companies.

Medicare was billed over $3.2 million, paying out more than $1.3 million before the fraud was discovered.

In June 2022, Marc Sporn, 61, former owner of Real Time, was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for his involvement in the conspiracy.

“Medicare fraud is fraud against the American taxpayer,” Serrano said. “This fraud is especially egregious as it was perpetrated by a medical doctor betraying his oath to do no harm.”
