COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The Coeur d’Alene Cider Company is closing its doors after the tragic events on Canfield Mountain on June 29, which resulted in the deaths of Battalion Chiefs Frank Harwood and John Morrison.
The cider company, owned by Jill Morrison, the wife of Chief Morrison, will serve its last customers on Friday, August 1. Jill announced the closure, stating she no longer has the will to keep the business going.
In a statement on social media, Jill expressed gratitude for the years spent at the company.
“It’s been a lot of fun over the years. Full of great people, good stories, and a whole lot of heart. I wish I could keep it going, but life has changed, and I no longer have it in me to run it the way it deserves,” she said.
Community members like Dave Muise have shown support for the business and reflected on its community impact.
“Really sad to hear what happened and I’m certainly going to miss it,” Muise said.
The Coeur d’Alene Cider Company opened in 2019 after initially selling at pop-up locations. John Morrison’s contributions to the business were significant. The company shared that he built the tables, patio, and bar, noting “his fingerprints are everywhere.”
Jill Morrison ended her statement with pride in the accomplishments of the cider company.
“I’m proud of what we built here, and I’m grateful to everyone who helped make it what it was,” she stated.
The community is encouraged to visit the Coeur d’Alene Cider Company on Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. to show support and enjoy the environment Chief Morrison helped create one last time.
