OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Commerce awarded $41.1 million in Clean Energy Community Grants to 49 projects across 22 counties including Spokane.

The funding, distributed this spring and summer, supports initiatives such as rooftop solar, battery storage and electric vehicle charging, Commerce announced in a press release.

Governor Bob Ferguson said the grants emphasize the state’s commitment to clean energy, stating, “As the Trump Administration steps back from our clean energy economy, we’re stepping up.”

Projects awarded by the Department of Commerce in Spokane County:

– Tessera in Spokane received over $2.3 million for a microgrid aimed at wildfire resilience and workforce development

– The City of Spokane received over $2.8 million to enhance the Spokane Water Department with solar power, battery backup, and EV charging stations.
