SPOKANE, Wash. – City of Spokane released a “Know Your Rights” webpage for local immigrant and refugee communities.

The webpage has information about constitutional rights of people in the United States, regardless of immigration status. It also has templates for Red Cards, which outline how people can exercise their rights.

The Red Cards also features a script that can be read to law enforcement during an interaction as well as guidelines for conduct.

The website also contains a variety of community resources, information for partner agencies and information on how to access legal assistance.

“Our city is stronger because of the diversity of people who call Spokane home,” Mayor Lisa Brown said. “This new website is just one way we are working to ensure that everyone, no matter where they come from, has access to the support they need to feel safe.”

“This effort is about dignity and inclusion,” said Jerrall Haynes, Director of the Office of Civil Rights, Equity, and Inclusion. “We want every resident in Spokane to feel supported and empowered to exercise their rights.”

The website is hosted on the City of Spokane page and can be found at https://my.spokanecity.org/civilrights/immigrant-and-refugee-affairs/.
