SPOKANE, Wash. — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spokane plans to donate a semi-truckload of food to Second Harvest Inland Northwest today between 9:00-10:00 a.m. today.
The delivery will include 40,000 pounds of shelf-stable food.
“Shelf-stable food (such as canned or dried) is getting more and more challenging to obtain,” said Eric Williams of Second Harvest. “And many of the partner food banks and pantries we supply have limited cold storage. That means this donation from the Church is timely, thoughtful and very generous.”
Mike Thomsen, Supply Chain Director at Second Harvest, highlighted the impact of the donation. “A delivery like this changes what we can do over the next several weeks. Instead of rationing, we can say yes more often,” said Thomsen.
Second Harvest serves tens of thousands of residents monthly through its network of food banks, meal sites and partner agencies in 26 counties. The donation will assist in distributing groceries and essentials throughout eastern Washington and north Idaho.
