SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County Fire District 9 Chief, Matthew Vinci, is sharing his concerns about the recent fire in Mead that prompted level three evacuations.

Chief Vinci noted the alarming rate at which the fire spread, stating, “You know, the folks that have been responding to fires in the Mead area for decades had said that they hadn’t seen that kind of rapid fire spread in a residential area like that in quite some time.”

Evacuations were called off after a few hours, but the incident has highlighted the potential challenges of this fire season in the area.

The chief urged residents to practice fire safety, emphasizing the importance of adhering to fire protocols and maintaining flammable systems in homes. He stated, “It includes no legal burning. Follow the fire protocols put out in your county.”
