Cheney Public Schools provided an update Thursday on the May 28 incident.
CPS says the bomb threat was received at around 1:45 p.m., prompting an immediate evacuation from both high schools. Betz Elementary School also secured its building as a precaution.
After evacuating, students were brought to secure locations and cleared before being released to bus and parent/guardian pick-up.
Involved agencies included Airway Heights Police, Cheney Police, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Eastern Washington Police and Fairchild Air Force Base.
CPS provided NonStop Local with the following statement:
“We are incredibly proud of how our students and staff responded during the evacuation. Their quick action made all the difference. We also want to thank law enforcement agencies for being outstanding partners throughout the incident. Wednesday’s events are currently under investigation, and we cannot provide further comment.”
CHENEY, Wash. – Cheney High School and Three Springs High School were both evacuated Wednesday afternoon after Cheney Public Schools received an anonymous bomb threat.
A statement from Cheney Public Schools says law enforcement is on site. Pick-up and busing information will be sent out soon.
Roads in the area are reportedly closed. Residents are urged to avoid the area.
