CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — The local government announced a significant change in payment methods effective February 9, 2026. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) will no longer accept cash or checks for Concealed Pistol Licenses (CPLs) and DUI cost recovery fees.

According to a post from CCSO, this transition to electronic payments, including debit and credit cards, applies to all new CPL applications, renewals, and replacement licenses. The office stated that this update is part of an effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency.

The shift aims to reduce the staff time and resources required for processing cash and checks. “By adopting electronic payment methods, the Office can better allocate staff time, improve operational efficiency, and ensure that taxpayer funds are managed responsibly and effectively,” said the office in an official document.

While acknowledging potential inconvenience, the office expressed gratitude for public understanding as it modernizes operations. More changes to electronic payment methods are planned, with advance notice to be given.
