UPDATE: April 14 at 10:20 a.m.

SCRAPS has requested four charged be brought against a kennel in Airway Heights following a seizure that removed over 170 animals from the facility.

Two charges of animal cruelty in the second degree were brought forward. This charge encompasses inflicting unnecessary pain and suffering on an animal, as well as failing to provide shelter, rest, sanitation, space, or medical attention to the animals, furthering its suffering or physical pain.

The other two charges relate to animals being transported or confined in an “unsafe manner,” and not meeting the required conditions to breed dogs, including not having space for the dogs to turn about freely, stand, sit, or lay down without having to touch another animal.

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS) seized more than 170 animals from a kennel in Airway Heights due to a failed inspection at the facility.

According to SCRAPS, officers served a search warrant at WildWoof Kennel in Airway Heights around 8 a.m. on Feb. 7, resulting in the seizure of 171 animals after the facility failed an inspection.

The Spokesman-Review reports that the kennel was under investigation for unsanitary conditions, which led to the suspension of its breeder’s license. Multiple inspections had found poor living conditions for the dogs and a foul odor that caused officers’ eyes to burn.

The animals that were seized are listed as follows:

• 59 goats

• 24 rabbits

• 54 chickens

• 2 geese

• 2 chinchillas

• 22 dogs

• 5 cats

• 2 horses

• 1 mule

SCRAPS said the investigation is ongoing.
