
A potentially deadly condition caused by bites from a kissing bug is raising health concerns in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported the condition as likely endemic, with human cases mostly reported in southern states.
Kissing bugs are also known as vampire bugs, formally Triatominae.
According to the CDC, approximately 8 million people globally have contracted the virus associated with kissing bug bites.
In the United States, around 280,000 people have been affected, often without realizing it.
