The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a new report indicating that the death rate in the United States last year returned to prepandemic levels. The report highlights that there were nearly 3.1 million deaths in 2024, marking a nearly 4 percent decrease.
Heart disease and cancer were the leading causes of death, accounting for more than 40 percent of the total. Unintentional injuries ranked as the third leading cause of death in the country.
Despite tens of thousands of COVID-19 cases, the CDC noted that COVID-19 fell out of the top 10 leading causes of death for the first time since the pandemic began.
