KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. – A case full of live hand grenades were found inside a home on Olalla Valley Road Southeast on Monday.
According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office in a social media post, contractors doing renovations on the house found the case and alerted the homeowners, who were living elsewhere while renovations were being done.
The homeowners called 911 and said that they’d recently purchased the house, and had not seen or had prior knowledge of the case or grenades.
Bomb technicians from Washington State Patrol and an explosive ordinance team from Naval Submarine Base Bangor responded to the scene.
Olalla Valley Road Southeast was temporarily closed for public safety while the bomb teams were on site.
Ten grenades were found in total, as well as blasting caps and “other explosive devices,” the sheriff’s office said. Technicians determined the grenades contained the explosive TNT.
The Naval Submarine Base Bangor took possession of the grenades, which are believed to be military issue, the sheriff’s office said.
An investigation is underway to determine how the bombs ended up in the home.
