SPOKANE, Wash. – Residents of a home in Spokane’s Logan neighborhood experienced a frightening incident early Saturday morning.
At 2:00 a.m., one of the five people living in the home reported seeing someone with a hoodie in her room. Although it was dark and blurry, she went back to sleep.
Later, another roommate returned home around 5:00 a.m. to find the front door wide open. She discovered her room had been rifled through.
“I know our doors were shut when we had left,” she said. “And then I see my backpacks, their pockets are open and the things are like pulled out. Then, my wallet and keys are gone and my purse from off my desk. That’s when I’ve noticed, I’ve been robbed.”
Another woman in the house described the burglary as an emotional violation.
“All the nice things I own are from my grandma and all of those things were taken so, I’m really upset about that,” she said.
The residents had been wary of people outside since moving in earlier this year.
“It’s definitely weird when you’re looking out your kitchen window and you can see a bunch of homeless people back in your alleyway,” she said.
The incident prompted the roommates to move out within two days.
“It’s just a blessing that we have this house now. It’s a beautiful, great neighborhood. I love everything around it,” one resident said.
Despite feeling safer in their new home, the trauma from the break-in lingers.
“When we got to the old house, we all knew the sketchy and like, I think maybe all of our parents, when they dropped us off were like, okay. My mom definitely was not okay. She has been wanting me to move out and for anything, next year,” she said.
Spokane police confirmed they have received the police report but have not yet assigned the case to a detective. They are urging the community to report any information or footage from Friday night into early Saturday morning.
