SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Residents in Spokane Valley experienced a close call with a fire Thursday morning, demonstrating the dangers of dry conditions.

Scot Hackman, a local resident, shared his experience.

“Believe me it doesn’t take any time for a fire to spread – it’s like that,” he said.

Hackman and his neighbors on East 4th Avenue reported hearing fireworks followed by the smell of smoke. When Hackman looked out his window, he realized the severity of the situation.

“When I saw the flames they were about 5 feet high and within about 45 seconds they were all the way up 10 or 12 feet up and this whole side – flames – I couldn’t see down there to see any people,” Hackman said.

The fire burned dangerously close to an apartment building. However, fire crews responded quickly and extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes, preventing any damage to the building.
