Brush fire in Nine Mile Falls knocked down after car hits power pole, 2,000+ without power

NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. — Firefighters have knocked down a brush fire that started after a car crashed into a power pole in the Nine Mile Falls area.

According to Spokane County Fire District 9, the fire burned about three-eighths of an acre after the impact caused the power pole to fall.

No evacuation orders are in place, but officials are asking the public to avoid Nine Mile Road as crews continue to put out hot spots. The road is closed in both directions.

The downed power line caused an outage affecting 2,098 Avista customers. Utility crews are working to restore service.
