SPOKANE, Wash. — Brick West Brewing, the popular pub that helped revitalize Spokane’s West End, is facing foreclosure on its building but co-owner Jordan Tampien says the business isn’t going anywhere.
The brewery opened just before the pandemic and quickly became a community hub. But this week, Tampien and his partners defaulted on payments to Numerica Credit Union, prompting foreclosure proceedings on the building.
Tampien said the foreclosure does not affect the brewery’s operations.
“One big difference is the business is separate from the building, and so what we’ve been working on is actually selling the building in order to strengthen our operations here at the business,” Tampien said. “And so the foreclosure came up on the building only, and then the business. Now we’ve been able to put more investment in.”
He added that a buyer is already lined up and customers won’t see any changes.
“So what’s awesome about it is, we have a buyer. Even prior to the articles coming out, had a buyer that was ready to close by the end of the month, and then what we were able to do is negotiate a 20 plus year lease with them to ensure that we maintain operations for that time and hopefully continue to provide the same Brick West experience, just without the formality of owning the building,” he said.
NonStop Local reached out to Numerica regarding the foreclosure. In an email, the credit union said:
“Numerica is committed to working with borrowers through financial challenges. We’ve spent more than a year exploring solutions with the borrower that owns the building in which Brick West Brewing is located. Despite the good-faith efforts of both parties, an agreement could not be reached, and foreclosure proceedings were initiated. We remain hopeful for a resolution and will continue to support our members and community.”
