WASHINGTON – More than 500,000 boaters in the state have now completed their boating safety education course, fulfilling state requirements.

The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has emphasized that this program is crucial for reducing statewide boating fatalities and teaching best safety practices.

In 2025 alone, the Washington State Recreational Boating Safety Program has issued over 4,000 boater education cards to those who have completed the course. This addition has brought the total number of issued cards to 500,000.

The commission highlighted the importance of safety, especially considering the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest. They stated that safety should be a priority for anyone engaging with Washington’s waterways.

In 2024, Washington’s recreational boating incident data reported that 13 people lost their lives in fatal boating incidents.
