SPOKANE, Wash. – As the Bloomsday race gears up for its 50th run, excitement is building. This year’s poster is capturing the spirit of the event, filled with intricate details that reflect the iconic race.
Bloomsday organizer Bethany Lueck emphasized the unique nature of the poster.
“The longer you look at the poster, the more you notice… so… you definitely need to buy one… hang it in your house… and have something very special to look at,” said Lueck.
The poster showcases scenes familiar to Bloomsday participants, including walkers, runners, wheelchair racers and even camera operators hanging out the back of a truck. References to LEGO also appear, symbolizing the event’s ability to unite people of all ages.
The race is already exceeding expectations this year.
“We’re ready for more people. We’re trending 25% ahead of registration last year at this time so over 11 thousand registrants so far,” Lueck said.
A new addition this year is the Teen Advisory Board, providing opportunities for youth to get more involved in the event.
“You get to be a part of such an iconic event. You get to be downtown where Bloomsday is running for it’s 50th time,” said Michael Kiter, a Bloomsday organizer.
The advisory board allows teens to advocate for changes they want to see, adding a fresh perspective to the event. Bloomsday is recognized as the 8th largest single-distance road race in the U.S., with 68 perennial participants who have witnessed every race.
“I think Bloomsday is one of those things where you don’t know it and you can’t understand it until you’re in it and you see it for yourself, so come see it,” Lueck encouraged.
Registration for Bloomsday is open now at a cost of $30 until the price increases on March 31.
