Beer drinkers in Washington State are not facing the highest taxes, but they are not getting the best deal either. A new analysis from the Tax Foundation revealed that Washington’s beer tax stands at 29 cents per gallon, ranking as the 25th highest in the United States.

In comparison, Tennessee tops the country with a beer tax of $1.29 per gallon. The study examined state taxes on 12-ounce, 4.7 percent ABV beers purchased off-site and imported from out of state.

Experts noted that beer taxes can vary significantly depending on factors like alcohol strength, container size and the purchase location.
