Beer and wine sales approved for Gesa Field with restrictions

PULLMAN, Wash. – Fans attending games at Washington State University’s Gesa Field this fall will have the option to buy beer and wine inside the stadium.

The Washington Alcohol and Cannabis Commission has approved a one-year pilot program allowing the sale of beer and wine within Gesa Field.

However, this approval includes specific restrictions. During the pilot program, Gesa Field will enforce a no re-entry policy. Alcohol will not be permitted in the student section, and additional security will be hired to ensure compliance. Fans purchasing alcohol will be limited to no more than two drinks per transaction.

Jim Vollendroff, board chair, discussed the considerations involved in this decision.

“I personally view the sale of alcohol in these venues of entertainment differently than other facilities we license and appreciate the care and consideration that’s gone into assuring that we proceed with a plan that will be successful,” he said.

The commission will review safety data collected this year before deciding whether to extend the pilot program beyond 2026.
